Recruiting event volunteers
For each Special Olympics competition event, a small army of volunteers is needed — from sports officials to cleanup crews. When the need for volunteers was unusually high for Fall Games, we strategized ways to get more boots on the ground. Our media mix included social media, email marketing, website updates, and public relations — with the latter garnering several articles and event listings.
Web design
Giving a website design a boost
Special Olympics Vermont’s website was in dire need of improvements, but their marketing budget could not support a complete web overhaul. We identified top-priority pages that could benefit from improvements to design and messaging, and worked within the confines of their existing site. The results made a difference to their image and to the clarity of their messages — so important for connecting with families, athletes, and donors.
Print design
Infographics drive a brochure design
Too often, families of athletes with intellectual disabilities have a misunderstanding of Special Olympics involvement. Many don’t realize — or take advantage of — the lifetime of opportunities it provides. Helping combat this confusion, our “Play On!” campaign featured an easy-to-read brochure distributed statewide, with a prominent infographic that clarifies how athletes can “stay in the game for life”.

Postcards that promote play
As part of our “Play On!” campaign, this series of postcards was designed to encourage lifelong involvement with Special Olympics. With different seasonal sports featured, and information carefully organized for easy reading and understanding, these large postcards got noticed in the mailbox — and made a difference.
Photography
Shooting sports in Seattle
The Special Olympics USA Games are hosted every 4 years, with thousands of athletes from across the country competing in Olympic-type sports, showcasing abilities and promoting empowerment and acceptance. Stride volunteered one staff member to attend the 2018 Games in Seattle, photographing Vermont’s athletes as they competed and celebrated their efforts.
Email marketing
Enticing invitations
To honor the organization’s 50th anniversary, Special Olympics Vermont hosted special events for donors and families in different locations in Vermont. To keep this non-profit organization’s costs low, but retain the sophistication of a golden anniversary, we used email to distribute simple yet elegant invitations.
